I think morning and evening routines are sooo incredibly important. Morning routines are perfect for starting your day off on the right foot, whereas evening routines help you wind down and soften after a long day.
These are the steps I personally take to have a peaceful evening, as it usually leads me to a very peaceful sleep. Hope this gives you some ideas as well. 🙂
1. Plan + Prepare For Tomorrow
Prepare everything you need for the following day so you won’t have to wake up scrambling for all of your things. I love to take the time out every evening to write out my to-do list (and other lists I need) for the next day. This includes any items I need to buy, my meal plan, and tasks I need to complete for both work and myself. Writing lists has always put me in the right headspace to be more productive and prepared for the following day. Other things you can do to help organize your mornings are programming your coffee maker, setting out your vitamins and supplements, having your work or school materials organized and sitting by the door, pre-making your breakfast and lunch (or deciding the details of them), planning your outfit, and so on and so forth.
2. Clean Up
Take some time out to do a quick clean up of your space. Organize your counter tops, place your clothes where they belong, sweep up, vacuum, and fix up anything that has been misplaced throughout the day. You’ll get out of bed in the morning feeling so much lighter knowing that your home is uncluttered. Talk about piece of mind!
3. Work On Your Hobby, Your Side Hustle, or Your Desired Career
Engage in an activity that a) you’re passionate about and b) gets your creative juices flowing. Whether that’s starting a blog to build your dream life, playing the guitar simply because you love it, or studying for that exam extra hard so you can land your ideal job — Use your time every evening to focus on getting better at your craft. You’ll feel enlivened working towards a personal goal, which in turn, will make you wake up happier every single morning.
4. Power Down With a Low Key Activity
It’s important for us to have some low mental effort waking time everyday so we don’t throw ourselves into overdrive. After being a responsible adult all day long, it’s now time to put your feet up and let your mind and body take it easy. This is the time to catch up on your favourite TV shows, watch a nostalgic movie, take a relaxing bubble bath complete with candles, read, knit, colour, or do any other activities you enjoy that don’t take much brainpower. It’s okay to give yourself a break — You won’t regret it!
5. Engage In a Spiritual Practice
Find an activity that connects to your own higher power. This can be through painting, drawing, prayer, meditation, spiritual literature, dance, yoga, and anything else that makes you feel reconnected with your soul. Sundown is an incredible time to ease any tension that has been brought on by the chaos of our day. I’m sure you can agree that evenings seem to bring a lot of relief to many people, so it’s important to use this time wisely and give your spirit the replenishment it deserves.
