Top Makeup Products That Every Woman Needs In Her Life (And Her Makeup Bag) > Click To Tweet
Mac Prep + Prime Skin: Without a smooth canvas, I won’t get a smooth application of foundation, blush, or anything else. I have combination skin that tends to get dehydrated quite easily, so laying down a good moisturizer and primer prior to makeup application is a must for me. This one is a lightweight gel lotion formula and I love it so much because it absorbs the oil from my t-zone while still adding in moisture to my dry areas and overall dehydrated skin. Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation: I’m sure this isn’t a surprise that this is on my list because it seems to be on everybody’s radar, but this is just the most stunning foundation I have ever used. It imparts a very healthy, satin finish to the skin that I just haven’t been able to find elsewhere. I prefer to only apply foundation to the centre of my face, as this is where I get the most amount of redness. So, around the nose (but not on the nose), the chin, the forehead, and a bit under the eyes. This creates an illusion that your skin is actually bare because some of your skin’s natural texture will show. Although that’s my preferred method for applying base products, there are definitely some days where I need more coverage (ahem: time of the month) and a full face of this foundation gets the job done perfectly by covering all of my zits and making my skin look radiant and healthy.
Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer: I need a good concealer in my beauty arsenal and this one definitely does the trick. If I can cover up my dark circles, and any redness or blemishes I may be experiencing that day, I’m good to go and I don’t feel like I need anymore makeup on my face. So if I’m in a rush, I’ll just even out my complexion with a bit of this concealer and apply some highlighter and head out the door. It gives great coverage without being overly heavy and a little dab of it goes a very long way — so, despite the high price tag, this concealer will last you quite some time before you have to head out and purchase a new one.
Makeup Revolution Blush Melts Palette: I love this cream blush palette because a) I love cream blush and the versatility of it, b) it has 8 shades to play with that are suitable for every skin tone, and c) the palette is only 10 bucks. I’ll typically warm up the product with my finger and apply it directly on the cheeks that way, however, if you’re not comfortable using your fingers, using a foundation brush to slowly build the colour on the cheeks works wonderfully as well.
Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick: As you can tell by the name of this product, this is actually a foundation. However, it’s the perfect shape and size to contour with. I get a shade that’s a couple shades darker than my own and use it to contour my cheekbones, jawline, and forehead. I also typically use this under a thin layer of foundation (yup!), as it gives a really natural sculpted effect, however, it can also be used over your foundation for a bolder contour as well.
Mac Strobe Cream: I don’t know where I would be without this! This product gives the most natural, wet-looking, healthy glow that I’ve just never been able to find elsewhere. I’ll typically mix this in with my foundation for an extra dewy appearance and/or apply it to the high points of my face with a damp Laura Mercier sponge. It’s such an essential product for me that on days that I’m in a rush and need to be out the door ASAP, I’ll only use this and some concealer for an awake and healthy appearance.
Hoola Bronzer: This bronzer gives off a stunning and healthy, natural-looking tan to the complexion. It’s completely matte, so there’s no need to worry about shimmer, and the product is so finely milled, that it applies and blends seamlessly. A dream! I apply it to my cheeks, chin, and forehead with a bronzer brush for a warm and sunkissed appearance all year round.
Mac Prep + Prime Fix +: This finishing mist is sooo refreshing and is an absolute must-have for me. The scent of the product and the feeling of the spritz gently falling on your face makes you feel like you’re at the spa. It works to merge all of your makeup layers into one (which is especially helpful if you have any powders on) and gives your skin a gorgeous and glowy, dewy appearance.
Urban Decay Primer Potion: To give my eyeshadows long-lasting staying power and a burst of colour enhancement, this purple tube is an eye makeup saver. The formula is super lightweight and feels like cashmere on the skin. All I do is squeeze a very tiny amount of product (seriously, a little goes a long way) onto my fingertip and apply it to each eyelid prior to applying any eyeshadow colours and voila! Vibrant colour payoff and no creasing.
Mac Warm Neutral Eyeshadow Palette: If you’re going to own any eyeshadow palette, it should be this one. My go-to shades are “Gingersnap” (the reddy brown colour) and “Saddle” (the golden brown colour) all over my lids. I also love the combination of “Amber Lights” (the metallic copper shade) and “Dance in the Dark” (the deep brown shade) for a bolder look. Regardless of what your preference is when it comes to neutral eyeshadows, this palette has 15 shades and various finishes to choose from, so you can create tons of different eyeshadow looks for any occasion.
Shiseido Inkstroke Eyeliner: Besides the luxurious packaging of this gel eyeliner, this product applies and wears like a dream. It’s smooth, pigmented, and is also water-resistant, so you don’t have to worry about any mild tearing ruining your makeup look. “Shikkoku Black” is a must-have (of course!) but “Kona-Ai Blue” really takes the cake for me because I love a deep blue shade for my brown eyes. I apply this with my Mac 209 brush and brush off any excess eyeliner in the helpful v-shape protrusion in the product.
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara: This mascara is a cult favourite and ever since I got my hands on it, I haven’t looked back. I don’t have super long, lush lashes and I’m also not a huge fan of fake eyelashes, so I really need all the help I can get. This mascara seriously makes my lashes huge and holds the curl in place throughout the course of my entire day. I also love that it’s a very deep black colour, which when comparing to other brands of mascara, is very noticeable in difference. I’ll only apply one coat of this for everyday wear and two if I want more drama.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel: Brow gels are my heart! They give my brows a bit of definition while still allowing me to have the messy boy brow look I love so much. All I do is run this brow gel through my eyebrow hairs and use a spoolie to brush the hair upwards and blend the product in. “Espresso” is my shade.
Mac Whirl Lip Pencil: This lip liner is a mauve-brown shade that works really well on its own or with a variety of different lipsticks. My favourite way to use this lip pencil is by overlining only my cupids bow and the centre portion of my bottom lip for a fuller, yet natural effect. I then gently blend it out by using my fingertip and typically top it off with a clear gloss.
Mac Viva Glam 1: Despite being a lipstick hoarder, I always end up going back to this one. I dab the product onto the centre of my lips and use my finger to softly blend it to the rest of my pout. It imparts the most effortlessly stunning, slightly bitten, redness to the lips that are perfect for both no-makeup makeup days and bold winged eyeliner days as well. It’s just the perfect go-to lip pick-me-up I’ve ever found!
Mac Clear Gloss: What’s more flattering than a high-shine clear gloss? Nothing, I believe. A clear gloss works on all ages and complexions and complements almost every makeup look. You can use them solo, over a lip liner, or over any lipstick hue to add dimension and youthfulness to your overall appearance. This one’s great because it’s also formulated with jojoba oil, so your lips will stay soft and conditioned throughout your day.
